PayPal refund pending: which stage are you waiting for?
Check where the label appears. PayPal’s US help page uses pending for two different stages—not one universal waiting period.
Pending in common refund statuses
In this section of PayPal’s help page, the seller has issued the refund but the money has not cleared the seller’s bank.
PayPal says this usually takes up to 5 business days. If it remains pending after 5 business days, contact the seller.
Refund Pending in the three-step tracker
At step three, PayPal says the card issuer or bank is processing the refund. This is not the seller-clearance stage above.
This tracker covers full checkout refunds funded by one bank or card, not payments split across methods. Check its transaction details before choosing your next step.

Open the refund in PayPal Activity and read the surrounding details. The word pending alone is not enough to identify who is holding it. If unclear, ask PayPal to clarify the stage.
